Great First Day at LMS – Monday, August 18

Hello Wildcats!
What a great day at LMS!  Your kids came to school smiling and enthusiastic today.  What an awesome group of kids!Thank you for your patience in the car loops this morning and afternoon. It will get even smoother in a week or so.  Thanks so much for continuing to use our campus drop-off and pick-up lines.  Safety is our number one priority!

We are still waiting for some final procedures to be set up by the Apple corporation before we can issue iPads to our sixth grade and new students.  We hope this will be done by the end of this week.  If you haven’t gone through iPad orientation yet, please stop by the front office as soon as possible.  We can also help you take care of any remaining registration processes, so that we have all of the most current information for all of our students.

Look for a packet called “Forms and Notices” to come home with your student today.  If you completed registration on Infosnap, you do not need to complete most of these forms.  You can keep them for your personal reference.  There are two forms we need all students to return.  These are on p. 23 regarding Medicare and p. 29 – science lab safety.  Please be sure these two forms that are not available on Infosnap are completed and returned.

We hope your kids share some good information about their first day. Thanks for sending us such awesome students.

Go Wildcats!

Lexington Middle School Update – August 10, 2014

Hello Wildcats!
What a great few days at LMS!
We had over 500 people use the Infosnap system to register online, and we had 225 excited new students at Cat Camp Thursday night. Don’t worry if you couldn’t make it to one or both of these events – you can still register anytime this week after 12:00 on Monday.  We will need to verify your address with your electric bill and driver’s license.  Also, remember it’s never too late to sign up for iPad insurance.  Our goal is to have 100% of our students insured.  Also, parents of 6th graders and new students must complete iPad orientation before we can issue a district iPad with an Apple ID.  Our front office can help you out!
7th Graders:  Remember to bring us immunization records showing you have met the state’s TDAP requirement.  We have to have this before the first day of school.  Let us know if you need any help!
Mark your calendars for Open House, Thursday, September 4.  We can’t wait to see our awesome students on Monday, August 18!  Please be patient with our traffic during student pick-up and drop-off the first week.  It will get smoother very quickly.  Also, we are trying to prevent students from crossing Highway 378 to be picked up.  Please help us keep all of our Wildcats safe by not dropping off or picking up in areas other than our traffic loops on campus.
If you haven’t joined PTO yet, look for information on Facebook – “LMS-PTO.”  It’s a great way to stay involved this year!
It’s going to be a great year.  Go Wildcats!

Online Registration System – InfoSnap

Online Registration: Our online registration system, Infosnap, is the most convenient way to handle school registration. You can double check student information and pay fees online before schedule pick-up day. You will receive an automated phone message this summer with information about Infosnap, followed by a message sent to the email address you have provided to the school.

Information about how to log in to Infosnap will be provided in the email. If you do not receive this information by August 1, have questions about Infosnap, or need assistance, please call our main office at 821-3700. Parents who prefer to complete all registration requirements in person can easily do so on August 5 during regular schedule pick-up hours. LMS has computers available every day during business hours if you do not have Internet access.

Important Information for 7th Grade Students

TDAPP Immunization records (7th grade only): REMINDER TO 7TH GRADERS: YOU MUST PROVIDE A RECORD OF THE TDAPP IMMUNIZATION PRIOR TO ATTENDING CLASSES AT ANY SOUTH CAROLINA PUBLIC SCHOOL. This is a requirement mandated by South Carolina law. The school nurses will be available to answer questions and receive information regarding medical concerns or discuss health-related issues Monday, Aug. 11-15 in the school clinic. If you need information or assistance fulfilling the immunization requirements, please call 821-3700. We don’t want any students to miss classes because of immunization requirements.

Important Reminder for Parents of 7th Graders

Important reminder from Lexington School District 1 for parents of seventh-graders

All children who attend school in South Carolina are required to receive a series of immunizations before they can begin school, including vaccinations against whooping cough (which is the “P” in DTP, DTP-Hib or DTaP vaccines). As children get older, however, the protection against whooping cough provided by the vaccines begins to decrease.

For that reason, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control requires seventh-graders to get a Tdap vaccine, a booster vaccine that also contains a pertussis (whooping cough) component to boost immunity to whooping cough, before school starts. The booster not only protects your child from whooping cough but also protects your child from tetanus and diphtheria.

According to state law, your student cannot attend school without getting this Tdap booster vaccine. School begins Monday, August 18. Your child must have this vaccine and an updated Certificate of Immunization on file before your child can attend school.

As you remember, we tried to make it easier for parents to have their child vaccinated with Tdap by working with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control to provide a Tdap clinic at all our middle schools for our sixth-grade students last spring.

Since we did this, our district has decided that all seventh-grade students must provide the school nurse at their child’s school with proof (an updated Certificate of Immunization) that they have received the Tdap booster before they will be able to get their class assignment information at schedule pickup.
