LMS Traffic and Pick Up Line Safety

Hello, Wildcats and Wildcat Parents.

Because student safety is our top priority, we thank you for taking the time to read this important message.  We have been monitoring the Dreher Street Parking Lot pick up loop closely and tried a new approach today.  I  apologize for the delay this afternoon in picking your students up in that loop.  However, we need your immediate assistance with helping us keep our students safe.  It was brought to our attention that there is a concern with parents parking in the lot between the rows of parked cars and having students walk through the on-coming traffic in the car loop to meet them.  That is not our procedure and creates an unsafe environment for students.

Please do not ask your student to cross the car loop line to meet you in the lot.  Rather, please wait in the car loop line.  We also recommend picking your student up in one of our other loops.  You can easily access those on Abby Lane.  Those loops move quickly and easily and do not require students to cross parking lots with on-coming traffic.  Check out the traffic map to see how to access those loops and expedite the pick up process for your family.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

LMS Update 9-21-17

Hello, Wildcats!

We have a few important items to share with you.

Today marks the interim for 1st nine weeks.  I can’t believe we are almost through the first quarter…it’s been great so far!

Interim Time:  Beginning last year, rather than sending home paper interim grade reports, we committed to providing even more timely and detailed feedback on your child’s academic progress by encouraging parents to use PowerSchool to gain immediate access to their child’s grades.  You can view your child’s grades and attendance by using a personal computer or downloading the PowerSchool App to your mobile device.  You can even modify the settings to have grades emailed to you daily if you choose.  If you have not picked up your PowerSchool login information from the school, need technical assistance with logging into PowerSchool, or have limited access to the Internet and prefer a paper copy of your child’s interim, you can contact Laura McCombs at 803-821-3700 orlmccombs@lexington1.net. You can also see your child’s grades by asking your child to show them to you using his or her iPad.  Students have the PowerSchool App on their iPads and have learned how to view their own grades and attendance.

Make up Pictures:  Make up pictures will take place this Monday, September 25 in the Multipurpose Room from 8:30 to 9:30.  If you were absent for picture day or there was a problem with your pictures and need to have them remade, be sure to go by the Main Office tomorrow to pick up a picture envelope that you will turn in with payment.  If you purchased a picture packet previously and need a retake, please bring it with you on Monday so you can return it to the photographer.

LMS PTO Fundraiser:  We have one more week left of our LMS PTO fundraiser!  Students have been selling and earning prizes and they can keep at it until September 27th.  Our PTO is very generous, funding teacher grants, beautification projects for our campus, and educational materials and resources. In short, reinvesting in the great work our school does with and for our students everyday!  Your support of our fund raiser is support for LMS!

Be sure to take a moment to check out our LMS Newsletter, Paws.

Have a great rest of the week!

Be sure to check out the packet with items and prize opportunities.  We are excited for this fundraiser as our PTO is extremely generous with plugging the proceeds right back into LMS!

Thank you for a fantastic school year!

Hello, Wildcats!

The faculty and staff of Lexington Middle School would like to thank you for a fantastic school year.  We believe we have the best students in the world, and we are very proud of them!

Our office hours over the summer will be 7:30-5:00Monday through Thursday.  Report cards will be mailed Fridaymorning.  If your student has outstanding fees, you should receive an itemized explanation of those fees in the mail early next week.  Our front office staff is available to help settle any fee questions.  If your 6th or 7th grader still has a school issued iPad, case, or charger, we will be happy to receive these items in the front office next week.  We also need any school textbooks that might not have made it back yet.  We still  have a few yearbooks left so if you missed your opportunity to purchase a yearbook, stop by the front office and grab one before they are all gone.

For students returning to LMS, mark August 7 on your calendar for schedule pick up in the cafeteria.  For our 8th graders, we wish you all the best as you move on to Lexington or River Bluff.  You are going to do great things.  For our rising eighth grade class, we hope you think about plans for your IB community project over the summer and start researching some great options. Also, don’t forget that summer reading!

We hope all of our Wildcats have a wonderful summer full or rest and fun with friends and family but also keep sharp by reading, staying active, and thinking about your goals for the coming year.

Thanks for the best year ever, and we’ll see you soon.  Be safe and do your best everyday.

Have a great summer!

LMS Update May 15, 2017

Hello Wildcats!  We have some important information and date updates to share with you.

Parents of 8th grade students, please be aware of an important date change.  Our 8th grade Completion Ceremony date has changed to Monday, May 22nd  at 6:00 pm in the Lexington High School Gymnasium. Due to unforeseen parking and seating conflicts at  Lexington High School on May 25th, we had to reschedule the ceremony date and location.  The new date is Monday, May 22 and the new location is the LHS Gymnasium. There will be plenty of parking and seating so bring all your friends and family to celebrate our 8th grade students!

On May 25, we will celebrate our 8th graders with our annual 8th Grade Party from 2:00-3:30 pm. If you can help provide food, drinks, money or time for this event, please click here to sign up! Thank you for making this a special day for our 8th grade students!

As we prepare to finish our year, please be reminded that LMS Cafeteria account balances should be paid before the end of the year.

The Lexington School District One Office of Food Service and Nutrition is really excited about the Summer Food Service program this year! ALL children, regardless of status or income eligibility, ages 18 and younger are able to come eat with us for FREE. This year, adults can also eat with their kids for only $2.35 for breakfast and $3.85 for lunch. The serving times, dates, and locations are listed on the flyer. Click here for more information!

Remember to pick up medicine from the Health Room before the end of school. Medicine left over the summer will be thrown away.

LMS Update May 3, 2017

Hello Wildcats!

We hope our Wildcat families are having a great week. We have lots of important information to share with you, so please take a few minutes to read through these announcements:

For all of our Wildcat Families:
Students received Spring Picture packets last Friday. Please be sure to return money for the pictures you wish to purchase along with any pictures you are not going to purchase by Monday, May 1st!

Remember that Blowfish Reading Logs are due by Monday, May 1st! If you need another copy, stop by the Learning Commons. Be sure to turn in your log and come out to enjoy the Blowfish game on May 28th!

Come join us at the Columbia Fireflies baseball on Sunday, May 7th at 2:05 p.m. for Lexington One’s Spirit Day! Tickets are on sale in the front office for $9. Be sure to wear your blue and gold for the game! There will be post-game autographs and a home run derby. Principals and athletic directors will compete in fun competitions throughout the afternoon. Be sure to purchase your tickets by Friday, May 5th!

SCPASS and SCReady tests will be given on May 10, 11, 12, 15 and 16. Remember to get lots of sleep and eat a great breakfast before these tests so that you can show off how much you’ve learned this year!

For our 8th grade Wildcat Families:
8th grade students in French, Spanish and German courses will be receiving a letter about high school credits for their world language work if they scored a 10 or higher during 3rd nine weeks. This letter explains that credit will be awarded at the end of this school year, instead of at the end of their first high school course as previously communicated. All 8th grade students who earn a 10 or 11 in French, Spanish and German by the end of this year will earn high school credit for level 1. Students earning a 12 or higher will earn credit for level 1 and level 2. (There are no changes to the way Latin I and II students will earn credit, so Latin students will not receive a letter!)

Have a great rest of the week! We’re so glad you’re a part of the LMS family!

LMS Update March 11, 2017

Hello, Wildcats!

It’s been a great few weeks here at LMS! Here are a couple of important things you’ll want to know!

It’s hard to believe it, but 3rd Quarter is almost over! The third quarter ends on March 15, so students will want to work really hard these next few days to finish well. This is a great time to reflect on progress so far and to set some goals for the last nine weeks.

Please remember that we will be in school on March 17 to make-up the last of the days we missed during Hurricane Matthew last October.

Our spring Box Tops collection is coming up! Click here for a flyer with more information. You’ll want to bring your box tops in for a chance to win some really cool Fireflies merchandise and other prizes!

If you’re interesting in trying out for the LMS Cheerleading Team, there’s an important informational meetings on March 13 at 6:00 in the LMS Theater. A parent or guardian must attend this meeting to pick up a try-out packet!

Next week if our first ever Make-a-Wish Spirit Week, sponsored by the LMS Student Council. Click here to see the fun things planned for the week, and get ready to kick off the week by wearing your favorite superhero t-shirt on Monday!

There are still a few yearbooks available for preorder. Don’t miss out on your chance to get the 2017 Cat Tracks Yearbook. You can order online at Josten’s by clicking here. Be sure you are ordering from the Lexington Middle School in Lexington, SC! Supplies are very limited at this point, so order soon!

For parents of 8th grade students attending River Bluff High School Only, please read this message from RBHS: Parents, this is a very important reminder about your student’s course registration for next year. March 17, 2017 is the last day for any request to change your student’s schedule requests.  This is a hard deadline for us to ensure we schedule all students with the most accuracy and intentionality to getting students the courses both that they request and need to meet graduation and college entrance requirements.  Should you have any questions regarding this please contact your student’s school counselor on or before March 17, 2017.

Thanks for all you to do to make it great to be a Wildcat! Have a great rest of your weekend!
