Week of September 13th

Good afternoon Wildcat families,

We are looking forward to another good week here at LMS.  There are numerous successes throughout our building and at home that have gotten us off to a great start.  Thank you to everyone for your help in keeping our students safe and engaged in their learning.

If you would like to purchase school pictures that were taken last week, students should return their picture order envelopes with payment to their Advocacy teacher by Tuesday for Cohort A or Thursday for Cohort B.  Orders can be placed online with Strawbridge Studios at www.strawbridge.net.

Friday, October 9th will be picture day for all LOOLA students at LMS.  A link to sign up for a time will be sent out soon.

The 2021 Cat Tracks Yearbook is on sale now.  Jostens offers a payment plan at checkout for your purchase if you would like to use that as an option.  Order by October 8th and you will receive free icons with the purchase of personalization.

Here is the latest edition of Courtyard Connections as I discuss several important topics.  Let’s have a great week!

Week of September 6th

Good afternoon Wildcat families,

What a fantastic week we had at LMS to start the school year!  It wasn’t fantastic b/c it was perfect, but b/c teachers, students and parents worked together and persevered through it to make it a great week.  This week, with hybrid students, Tuesday will be an A day with Wednesday and Thursday serving as B Days, and Friday as a virtual day.

School pictures will be taken Tuesday, September 8th for Cohort A students and Wednesday, September 9th for Cohort B students.  We would like for all students to be photographed, as this is the only way to ensure they will be in the yearbook.  Order envelopes will be sent home next week.  There will be a make-up day in October for students who are absent.  There will also be a Friday in October set aside for LMS Virtual Students (LOOLA) to schedule a time to come to school to be photographed.

This year’s Cat Tracks yearbook is on sale at this time.  The link to purchase can be found on the LMS Family Hub under LMS Important Information – Announcements.  Students who order by October 8th will receive free icons with the purchase of personalization.

The LMS Volleyball team starts off the Fall athletic season on Tuesday night with a home match versus Beechwood starting at 5:30 pm.  There will be limited tickets and admission to games due to the social distancing guidelines.  Tickets will be pre-sold to athlete’s families and there will be limited tickets at the door.  To purchase tickets at the door, you must have exact change and it is $5.00 a person.  District and High School Leagues passes will be accepted.  You must wear a face covering to attend.

Here is the latest edition of Courtyard Connections talking about our first week.

That’s it for now, have a great everyone!

Mr. Calhoun

Health Room Changes

Finally, here is a message from our School Nurse, Tera Williamson.

Please note the following process for medication orders which may be somewhat different than in the past.

Per district policy, when possible, medications should be given at home before or after school by a parent/guardian. When medications need to be given at school, please follow the following procedure.

Please make an appointment with me for all medication drop-offs. You will need to arrive with no more than a 30 day supply (keeping in mind how many days your child will be at school during the first month of a hybrid schedule) of the medication in its original container and a completed order, which may be found on the district website. Under, “I am a parent/guardian,” you will find the health tab. Under the health tab, you will find the link to the form, “Permission for school administration of non-prescription and prescription medication.” No walk-ins will be accepted as we need to follow social distancing. We will go through the meds and order together, and we will count all controlled medications together.

Note that all prescriptions must include a doctor’s signature on the district order form. That needs to be completed before bringing in the order and/or the medication. Please also note that as in the past, medications must be current (cannot be expired) and all over the counter medications must include the appropriate age/weight information on the bottle. All prescription medications must include the pharmacy label. No unlabelled medication can be accepted.

Please reach out to me with any questions or concerns and with arranging a time to bring in meds.  My email address is Twilliamson@lexington1.net.

Thanks,

Casey

LMS Registration, Supplies & More

Good evening Wildcat families,

The LMS staff is working extremely hard to prepare for the upcoming school year.  Though this will certainly be different than anything we have experienced, we are excited to welcome our students back to school, whether it is virtually or face to face.

Here are a few notes about the opening of school:

Registration for the upcoming school year will be online.  On Monday, August 17, 2020, you will receive an email with instructions telling you how to access the Online Registration and a secure code (snapcode) that you will use to register your child.  This information will be shared again prior to August 17.  I am attaching a letter explaining the details of Online Registration.  There will also be two Family Registration Help Days should you need assistance, a device, or network access.  The two days for Midway and feeder schools to River Bluff High School are Thursday, August 20, and Monday, August 24, and will be hosted at River Bluff High School.  LMS will have representatives present for these events.

LEAP Days (August 17th – 21st)

1. Please note that this is not required and that any student who is not participating will receive the same attention and assessment during the first two weeks of school.  So, if you missed the deadline to register or just weren’t able to make this happen, please do not worry.  We will still support and serve your child.  Thank you to those who were able to take advantage of this opportunity.

2.  Virtual Teachers will communicate with parents about virtual LEAP experiences for students in the Lexington One Online Learning Academy.

3.  Letters have been sent home to participating LEAP students that identifies your student’s specific day for attending.

4.  Masks are required to be worn by LMS staff and students for all face-to-face learning (LEAP days and traditional school days.)  We will also practice social distancing.

5.  No parents or guardians will enter the building during LEAP.  Please drop your children off in the Dreher St. car loop, we will be there to greet them and help them get to the Theatre to begin their day.

The first official day of school is Monday, August 31, 2020, for Cohort A, and September 2, for Cohort B,   Cohort assignments will be confirmed soon.  The school instructional hours will be 8: 30 a.m. until 3:20 p.m. following the AA/BB hybrid schedule.  Arrival and dismissal times will be extended prior to the start and after the dismissal to allow for distancing during these times. We will communicate more later about this.

I am also attaching a supply list for you to use as your family prepares for the school year.  Thank you for your support and we look forward to working with you this year.

Sincerely,

Casey Calhoun

Caroline Miley is Mission Lexington’s Volunteer of the month for July. She’s in the Eighth Grade at Lexington Middle School and loves to serve alongside her father in the Food Pantry. not get out much. I figure if I am not doing anything else for school or volleyball during this time, I should help out with people, especially those that depend on Mission Lexington for food and assistance. It was inspiring for me to see all the food and thrift donations. When we were allowed to return to volunteer, Mission Lexington was filled with donations. The people of Lexington are very generous. It makes me feel great to see that people in our community really care about their neighbors.”Thank you for your dedication to Mission Lexington, Caroline!
